NB. Lough Dan scout Center and Eco-park is located on a small country lane so access is only possible by coaches max size 50 seater. Access must be from Roundwood as the road to Laragh is unsuitable for coaches. If arriving by coach please inform us prior to arrival as the car park may be full and you will be required to use the overflow coach park.
Get to Roundwood Co. Wicklow. We are located 5 mins drive from Roundwood village. Lough Dan is sign posted from Roundwood.
Coming from the M50/N11 take the Kilmacanogue exit signposted Glendalough, and when you come into Roundwood take the right hand turn at the Roundwood Inn just before the pedestrian crossing. Go over the ramps and carry on, taking the left fork, follow the road for 0.5 km, then around a sharp right hand bend and up the hill following the road to the left at the top. Go down the hill through the oak wood and over the bridge turning right at the T junction. The center is located 0.5km up here on the right. Please drive slowly as the country roads are narrow and twisty.
Like most rural parts of Ireland the Campsite is not serviced directly by any public transport. However a limited bus service to Roundwood is available from the St. Kevins Bus company (http://www.glendaloughbus.com/) It will drop you off in Roundwood and it is only a 4km/40 minute walk form here to the center.
We have a secure but small car park adjacent to the campsite. However the access road is narrow and on occasion hill-walkers will have parked on the roadside verge constricting it even further. If you are arriving by coach it may be better to off load/park in our overflow car park which is located through the double gates into the large field near the Old Bridge end of the site. There is a path from there through the fields to the campsite.
If coming from West Wicklow via Laragh take the turn up by St Johns Church and follow the road to Lough Dan. This road is not suitable for coaches who will need to continue to Roindwood on the Dublin road and access the site from there.
Information on mini bus hire is found on this website’s “local services” section.
Arriving On Foot or by bike.
The best way to get to Lough Dan on foot is by following a Way-Marked trail. You can get to Lough Dan along the Wickow Way (which runs through the campsite) from Dublin’s Marley Park to the North or from Glenmalure & Glendalough to the South. From Rathdrum you can reach us along the Avonmore trail and for those coming from West Wicklow St Kevin’s Way connects with Hollywood and Valleymount.. Both of these Way-Marked trails join up with the Wicklow way in the Laragh/Glendalough area. We have arranged camping facilities in Glendalough for those wanting to do a two day expedition using the Way-Marked trails.
The nearest train stations to Lough Dan are at Bray 30km and Rathdrum 20km. Buses are available to Enniskerry and Kilnacanogue on Dublin Bus and to Roundwood (St Kevin’s bus company)
If walking on roads we advise that you keep to the secondary roads where traffic is less. There is unlikely to be a footpath so walk single file facing oncoming traffic. Wear hi-viz vests.
For those cycling the best route is either via Enniskerry or Kilmacanogue and then use the road that runs slightly west and parallel to the R755 road to Roundwood. The R755 has a lot of heavy traffic and is not a pleasant cycle.
Please note the campsite & hostel is mainly for use by Scout and Guide groups. Educational and school groups are welcome to avail of the campsite all year round and the hostel facilities mid-week during term time. Please contact our bookings team to discuss. Bookings@loughdan.com
NB Lough Dan Scout Centre is not open to the general public or for family picnics but those hiking the Wicklow way are welcome to stay.
